Art provides me with a sense of place and purpose, and I desire to inspire that feeling in others when they observe my work. There is nothing I enjoy more than forming a concept in my mind, bringing it to life, and utilizing art as a tool to channel my interpretations. My past mediums have included oil, acrylic, and spray paint, with commissions ranging from wall art, to painting models for creative photo-shoots, to murals. Through this range of experience, I have come to recognize the importance of organization and flexibility in my artistic process, and I begin each piece with a loose outline to establish composition, assign light source, and create a guide for myself. My preferred medium is oil paint, due to its high capacity for blending and shading, and I enjoy accentuating linear shapes and value contrast by applying vibrant colors to create definition and linear contrast.
My current body of work focuses on exploring and representing fundamental elements found in nature. I find that the seemingly simple aspects of our world, such as clouds, water and mountains, offer infinite complexities, which are often overlooked, that I strive to understand and depict. My focus on this type of subject matter has given new meaning to my landscape paintings, and I am constantly honing my observational and artistic skills to more accurately reflect the natural world. My overall goal with each piece I create is to achieve harmony and balance in my work, and inspire those who view my art to observe the simple joys that our world offers. As I move forward, I plan to develop compositions that rely on crisp, clean backgrounds in both natural and city landscapes in order to draw the eye and capture the attention of my viewers.
I love work that challenges me to think about the world differently, and I always remember that I am consistently learning with each piece of art I complete. Each time I sit down at my easel, I feel inspired by the ability to create and share a type of passion that can never be expressed in any other form. Art allows me to feel connected to a community that values the creative process as an enriching, dynamic facet of life. The collaboration, discussion and vibrant culture of learning are all a part of what it means to me to be an ever-growing, evolving artist and individual.
