Hi, I just realized that I didn't have a bio for my avatar so here goes...
I've been painting all my life, it seems, for which I'm grateful as art has gotten me through some rough times in the last couple of years. Seriously, I decided at a very young age that making pictures would be the best possible of all worlds to be in and except for the 6 years when I returned to college to earn an MSW, that's what I've been doing. I earned my BFA in painting at the Art School of the Society of Arts and Crafts (whew, try getting all that on a piece of paper!) which is now called the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. I had art related jobs during and after college before being hired at the US Postal Service. After putting in my time slinging mail sacks, I was advanced to Sign Painter/Illustrator at a time when we really did illustrate and paint signs by hand, instead of using clip art and plotters and did all our drafting by hand instead of AutoCAD.
I had the good fortune to love the job I did, and the people I worked with, but after 29+ years with the USPS and the sudden loss of my husband, I decided to retire. I did that July 2009 and have been "making pictures" more or less full time ever since. Art truly does heal.
After being a portraitist for years, my current passion is plein air and I've taken many trips to paint on site and made many new friends doing so. I've maintained a studio in down town Detroit for 6 years but am now moving it closer to home.
