Paulo Carvalho attended his first art classes, botanical drawing and botanical water color in 2010 at the Chicago Botanic Garden as well as the New York Botanical Garden.
In January 2011 he started taking oil painting classes with Diane Rath.
After the early death of Diane Rath he continued studying oil painting (still life) with Michael Van Zeyl at the Palette and Chisel Academy and with David Jamieson at the VItruvian Art Studio in Chicago.
In June 2012 he attended his first landscape painting classes, a 10 day Hudson River School style plein air workshop with Erik Koeppel in Jackson, NH.
