Eagle Lake 8×10 acrylic on linen

I enjoy painting with acrylic on linen canvas that I glue to a wooden panel using acrylic matte medium as an archival glue. Although I paint in oil, I prefer the quick drying of acrylic. Lately, I've been using Windsor Newton's Artist Acrylic brand because there is no value shift from wet to dry.

To the Chase

A long held tradition, fox hunting began in part as a way for farmers to protect their stock. As fox populations decreased, the hunt became sport, not to kill, but to "chase." Once the fox goes underground, "gone to ground," the ride ends. This is my contribution to the June photo challenge. I began with…

Cornflowers

I found a photo I took a couple of years ago in Delaware.  At first I was going to do a wide expanse with the farm as a backdrop.  But when I looked closer I saw a small patch of blue flowers that seemed to be reaching up for the warmth of the sun. I…

Crossing Light

Seems that even though I mix colors to get neutrals I end up pretty colorful.  Maybe that's my path.  Also, from my recent critique workshop I thought I would pass along a tidbit for my acrylic compadres. You may already know this, but, if you (like me) sometimes like the "oils look" try using an…

Marsh Spring

An impressionistic view of the marsh.  Tried to get aerial perspective through color/temperature change as opposed to values on this one.  I am really liking these 30 minute studies, it's breaking me of my bad, bad habit of overworking colors! This is a 6 x 12 acrylic on canvas.  Please let me know what you…

Heron Study

Great Blue Heron, another 30 minute study. I did the value sketch and pretty much went from there, background is my own and only a little reference to the photo.  12 x 16 acrylic on canvas. C + C appreciated.

The Old Working Shed

This was probably once a tool shop or some kind of working garage and  was even propped up at one point in its career. Now just sitting along a road, waiting for demolition day.  I tried to salvage some dignity for it by circling it with an almost halo like light. 11 x 14 acrylic…

Cowffee Break

Another one in my 30 minute time frame, I like that it gives me just enough time to figure out what I need to do, but doesn't let me start getting fussy about unnecessary details. Also my goal is to render the subject in enough detail to understand what it is without looking slapdash.  I…
