Oil painting is my first love. I've only painted a handful of complete paintings.

I have a 2 yr degree in commercial art. but left painting for a long time but now i'm back at it. I'm really grateful for this format.

keep on painting

I am perticularly interested in joining The Allied Artists of America. I have just started painting fine art on a serious effort. Before this I was a muralist for years in LA. I am a member of The California Art Club, The Portrait Artists of America, The San Diego Watercolor Society and The American Watercolor Society. Your Association is very interesting to me too.

Love your work. Thank you for sharing. Your compositions remind me of one of my first heavy influences.. the Australian painter Jeffery Smart.

Also thanks for your Advice. I worry way too much about if i'm following the rules.. so your advice was just what i needed to hear.. thanks again and I will try this meglip you speak of.
Cheers.

You did send a lot of info, buy I appreciate it. The reason I asked why you said you were self-taught is because so many times the college degrees intimidate newcomers. I am self-taught, starting at age 8 or 9, my mother instructed me in charcoal portraits, showing me how to get the proportions correct, so the finished picture looks like the person or animal. I loved drawing, and did it endlessly. I know what you mean when you said that time passes and you're not aware of it. Deepak Chopra says that you are in a blissful state of mind when that happens. In the groove, so to speak.

I ventured into color and oils later in life, but I love the experience. I did take some classes at the community college, and loved every minute of it. I read what I can, but the experimentation is the best teacher.

Thanks for answering my question. I think too often the academics get in the way of creativity.

It's great to see your paintings here. I've always admired the way you can find someting interesting amidst the grime and chaos of New York. Your focus on the people really takes me into the pictures. Thanks, Steve

Welcome!

Thomas,
