"watermixableguy" or "wmg" lives in Atlantic Canada with his wife, who is also pursuing oil painting. Both have very demanding non-painting careers, but devote considerable time and energy to oil painting in their off-hours.
"wmg" enrolled in year 1 of conceptual "studio art training" at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, after which he attended Toronto's Ryerson University. During those 4 years of study in Cinematography, he continued to illustrate and produce cartoons for the two Ryerson campus papers.
Following further studies at The Ontario College of Art, and a few Toronto community colleges, "wmg" worked in motion pictures, and then as a designer and illustrator for advertising agencies in Toronto. During those 15 years of long hours and rapid learning, "wmg" developed a loose, open rendering style that was best suited to pencil and markers. The key was to be able to sum up a concept or idea, and make it look visually colourful and attractive, without sacrificing sleep in doing so.
"wmg" continues to transfer his advertising approach to learning about water mixable oil, and is gradually beginning to lose his instinct to reach for a Pantone PMS 186 marker or the Photoshop menu.
