I quite often take my works outside, and photo them in bright shade, and even in sunlight, if its early. If the piece is small enough, try a direct scan. Also, if you choose to photo indoors, try using the kitchen flourescents overhead combined with an incandescent flood, or lamp without shade.

Lady on sofa

Patrick, thanks for the note. Your work reminds me of Charles Reid's work.

Watercolors

Hey Patrick, Thanks for the note. I have no problem with someone imposing a time limit on getting something done if it's for a good reason. Clayton Beck recomened doing just that to help some of him students focus on making every stroke of paint count. Forcing you to think about each mark on the canvas. It's not always obvious to everybody out there why. And not wanting to get into a heated discussion about draprey on a model with the lady that wanted you to put bottoms on her. It's your art & your decission to use draprey as you see fit. It's not her place to try to dress her to conform to her prudishness.

Anyways, keep up the good work and I enjoy your paintings!

What do you do with these studies after they are done? I would be interested in seeing your evolution with them. Any one of them would form a very solid base for a more developed Painting. You know, where you can include more detail, and such.

I'm impressed you get so many to sit still long enough for the pieces.

Keep up the good work.

Life Studies

Hi Patrick-

This image took me several months working an hour or so at a sitting.

I concentrate on one part at a time, maybe half a square inch, trying to get it exactly right. Eventually the whole picture comes together.
