Laura Grenning is the founder and owner of the
Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor, which is celebrated its 10 year anniversary last year. The gallery was founded to find patrons of an emerging movement
toward humanist and naturalist painting and sculpture. With most of the artists
at the Grenning Gallery, there is a deep understanding that nature is in
harmony. Their belief is that the primary job of a visual artist is to slow
down, pay attention to that lyricism, and then paint or sculpt our soul's
response to it. Notably, these artists are eternally seeking to glean the best
techniques to visually represent this beauty on canvas or in clay. This often
involves the study of drawing and painting techniques dating as far back as the
Renaissance. Much of this tradition was discarded in the rush to deconstruct
formal visual languages during the 20th century. As a result of a great deal of research and
painting from life almost exclusively, the artists at the Grenning Gallery are
often able to give viewers access to this harmonious place of truth and beauty.
