My Bio

I traded a painting for a VW Beetle to transport me to college. Forty-five years ago I planned to become a visual and graphic artist. Instead, art became a pastime. Visual pictures gave way to word pictures as I invested forty-five years as a church pastor and as a denominational executive. Along the way I completed graduate studies earning master's and doctoral degrees. I have never regretted my choice of altruistic service and in August 2008 I retired. Occasionally through the years I picked up my palette and brushes and surmised that one day I would devote more time to my art and that is what I have done. When people ask, I tell them I have returned with passion to the canvas to depict the faces and places of God's creation. I have enjoyed making new friends in the art community and derive great satisfaction by painting and seeing some of my work hang in art lovers’ homes. Living near the coastal waters, agricultural areas and Rocky Mountains, I primarily paint scenes of White Rock and Crescent Beach waters and shorelines, and blueberry and raspberry fields, cranberry bogs, vineyards and flourishing wineries, hobby farms, private estates and sprawling golf and country clubs. I paint this picturesque and productive environment of the lower mainland of British Columbia. Home is good and travel is an eye-popping treat. Christine and I were recently in the Caribbean in January 2010 doing some island hopping. The colours are vibrant. Pastel painted homes, exquisite skies and elegant water and sunshine playing delightfully with shadows. This is getting translated to some of my canvasses.  We also lived in France from April through early June 2009, staying in southern Provence, Dordogne, Loire, Normandy, Guernsey Island and Paris. The themes of some of my paintings reflect this extravagant treat.  My art can be seen at my Ron Unruh Online Gallery as well as my Ron Unruh Art Blog
