Artist Statement
I produce a lot of St Lawrence River Art featuring the Thousand Islands Region because that is where I live and find inspiration, as well as from travel and Museum visits.
My passions are plein air painting landscapes. mostly in oils. and life/figure, mostly in watercolors. plus some portraits. I work also in acrylic, pastel, and mixed media. My subject matter is eclectic and along with my mood will influence the medium. I am more interested in the creation process, rather than being master of one medium, subject, or style. I have created art since childhood, periodically finding stretches of several years during my past business career where I had time to take a workshop or participate in group life drawing sessions. I sold paintings off the walls in my corporate office and was often called on to create a specific piece of art to humanize a business situation. I always took art materials on my travels and did a lot of on site painting and sketching over a twenty year period. I treasure these more than the photos.
In April 2009 I formed Plein Air Painters Thousand Islands Region (PAPTIR) in order to promote Plein Air Painting in the region. From May through November I organize an event every second Wednesday and generally have four to seven artists. We painted at Boldt Castle in 2009 and 2011 and Singer Castle in 2010. There are currently about 35 artists on the distribution list who can pick and choose their paintous. We have no officers, directors, dues or meetings-just  "birds of a feather get together" to paint. Several art shows are organized each year. I work with local art organizations or municipalities to organize contests. My latest activity as to organize the 2012 , "First Annual Artists' Studio Tour  US 1000 Islands Region" in New York.  Over 27 atrists  will participate at  21 locations covering Alexandria Bay, Redwood, Wellesley Island,  Town of Orleans, Clayton and Cape Vincent on May 26 and 27, 2012, 10am to 5 pm.
