John Cogan captures the beauty of creation on canvas,
painting the landscapes and wildlife of the American West in a unique style
that has become known throughout New
Mexico and the Southwest. He works in acrylic, focusing on color and
the effects of light.
John studied physics during his college years,
earning a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in
experimental physics from Rice University.
He worked briefly in the corporate world as a geophysicist.
Yet, as much as he enjoyed the world of science and math, he loved
painting even more. In 1982 he left his
job to pursue art full time.
Among John’s public works is a 60 by
48-inch painting commissioned by San
Juan College,
AFTERNOON AT ECHO AMPHITHEATER for
the Henderson Fine Arts Building. John
also has paintings in the in the permanent collections of Citizens Bank, Conoco
Phillips, McGraw Hill and Raymond James Financial.
