Greeting fellow artists and members of the Artist Daily website from an American or Jerry Stith. I’m over sixty years old, have been doing artworks from the age of five and today mostly work with a ballpoint pen. Fifty-five years of art has brought many different mediums or media to my hands in order to express myself as an artist. Artist Daily appears to be a special forum to display my views and art works with therefore I proceed slowly. Incidentally my materials are currently published with thirty-three other locations on the Web.

I’ve mentioned that a ballpoint pen is my favorite art medium that’s because forty-two years has thus far gone into promotion or usage of such. In 1968 my ballpoint pen usage begin and today I’m the most prolific ballpoint pen artist, publisher, video producer and information provider. According to history and normal thinking that makes me the leader of international ballpoint pen art movement! My main site currently has over 800 ballpoint pen artists, 5,450 oil based ink drawings, 153 videos plus lots of information for those interested in such. By the way that location is the largest pen and ink and ballpoint pen and ink art forum on the Web or throughout history
I’m the son of a military officer, a veteran of three wars and navigator of the American air force. I have four brothers and a born again Christian mother that helped me start of on the right foot. Moving has been a life long process because that’s the was things go if you’re protecting this country of the family of someone working with our military or armed forces. There are about fifty different cities or towns under my belt because of my past as a military brat or artist interested in examining this countries culture, heritage, traditions or infrastructure.
Learning about our society, the art world, people and many different places has been an ongoing event within my life. A ballpoint pen has outsold all other writing or drawing instruments throughout history and according to Bic several hundred billion have been sold. A ballpoint pen is used for producing carbon copies, written materials plus as an art medium today here and now. Needless to say a ballpoint is just another pen or part of the pen and ink art movement that has been around for over four thousand years. That actually means that pen and ink has been around longer than just about all other art mediums and a ballpoint is the most popular or best seller!
Most fine art mediums have passed through my hands or finger tips of the past five decades as an artist my friends. Pen and ink is an interesting art medium because what you place on a surface ends up staying right where you place it. Erasing or changing your creations isn’t something a pen and ink artist has to deal with as a producer like many other mediums or media. Ink is bold, steadfast, permanent and fun to work with because what you do is what you get. That means ability, discipline, skills or and staying focused certainly counts. I love a ballpoint pen because it can produce a mile long flowing line, dark rich colors plus amazing half tones.
Thirty some years of my life has gone into doing art works outdoors or in nature. A ballpoint pen can capture motion, shading, detailed textures, subtle transitions and many other thing in real time because it’s a very quick medium. On the other hand a ballpoint pen works well inside, with stable object, photographs or even upside down for those doing tough projects. Over the past forty-two years drawing with a ballpoint pen and developing it as a new art medium has been what my life has evolved around while being on the road. Leaning about life, our art community, business, people and different mediums has helped me as a person which in turn helped me archive, produce, record, document or publish ballpoint pen art as a movement.
Newness was something that interested many people throughout my travels because it always presents opportunity. This detailed multi colored portrait of Mother Teresa is something new to many others at this forum I’m willing to bet from my experience as an artist. You’ll notice many colors, exceptional details, spectacular blending and superb degree of sensitivity as a pen and ink drawings. Those qualities and this form of artwork can be achieved via a ballpoint pen by you and others my friends. Needless to say many people have no idea what art medium is being used in this picture or other artworks like it. They also don’t realize a ballpoint pen delivers so many colors or produces such quality of a picture.
I drew in public for many years therefore have had thousands of people come up to see what’s going on. They have brought many complements, suggestions, stories, lots of good will and plenty of blessings. Their support helped carry me through emotionally, spiritually and economically as a portrait artist. They also helped inspirer me as a person because outside help is a welcome blessing in life. Mother Teresa was from Romania and end up moving to India to help the untouchables or the poorest of the poor. She was a Sister of Mercy that gained international recognition for helping others as a women of God. Her desire to help others by doing something new certainly inspired me as a person or artist.
During the past decade I’ve spent over ten thousand hours publishing, informing or specking out to others pertaining to ballpoint pen art. A ballpoint pen can produce three unique lines that no other pen system in history have ever done. A long flowing line, dark rich colors and the subtlest camera ready art line in history. Introducing those qualities, artists and their ballpoint pen ink drawings to the world is what my American folk art program has done before one billion others worldwide. Today, I've archived, documented, recorded and published the Ball Point Pen Art movement and that's “News Worthy” or “Art History in the makings”!
The inventor of the ballpoint pen was Mr. John J. Load a citizen of the United States, residing at Weymonth, in the county of Norfolk and Common Wealth of Massachusetts, patented the first ballpoint pen. The first patent on a ballpoint pen was issued on 30 October, 1888, to John J Loud, registration No. 392,046.
The pen had a rotating small steel ball bearing. As with modern ballpoint pens, the ball was held in place by a socket. It was fitted with a means for supplying heavy, sticky ink to the ball. The pen proved to be too coarse for letter writing, but it could be used to mark rough surfaces, especially leather. However, the patent was commercially unexploited and another ballpoint pen device was patented by Van Vechten Riesburg in 1916. The patent lapsed without improvement renewal.
Commercial models appeared in 1895, but the first satisfactory model of a ballpoint pen was designed by two Hungarian brothers living in Argentina: Lazlo, a journalist, and George Biro, a chemist. Lazlo noticed that the type of ink used in newspaper printing dried quickly, leaving the paper dry and smudge-free. He decided to create a pen using quick-drying ink instead of India ink. The thicker ink, though, would not flow from an ordinary pen nib and Biro had to devise a new type of point. Lazlo put a tiny metal ball bearing in the tip of a pen, the success of the ballpoint pen is due to the accuracy in which the ball is ground.
The Bic Pen Company indicated that they along sold over one hundred billion ballpoint pens several years ago publicly. That makes me wonder how many ballpoint companies there are worldwide producing similar pens? It seems to me that a ballpoint pen is the greatest writing, drawing or carbon copy instrument in history. That indicates our Point Pen Art is the largest undeveloped art movement in history!
Billions of people throughout history have used a ballpoint pen yet none of their artworks are showing up in our worldwide galleries, museums, public buildings, publications or media. That Is why I Am publishing thousands of ballpoint pen drawings, illustrations, sketches, doodles, inklings, pictures or video’s by 800 International artists. Needless to say, I Am the greatest ballpoint pen publisher on the WWW or in history and I say, Let the Inks Flow plus Keep on Creating.
