I grew up in Northern
Virginia and was encouraged from an early age to be
creative. I developed into a more deliberate art student as a teenager,
taking painting classes at the Corcoran School of Art and art classes in high
school.
I graduated with a BFA from the
Maryland Institute, College
of Art in 1992. During this
time I had the opportunity to study in Florence,
Italy through a
semester abroad program. I continued my education at George Mason
University with a focus
in art history.
I took a hiatus from painting for
many years to focus on my family. I
find myself needing to have a creative outlet and love the challenge and
richness that trying to create something gives me. I have experimented with many mediums in the
past but have found a true passion for watercolors. I enjoy exploring the many
possibilities this technique offers and am learning mostly by experimentation
and studying the work of artists that inspire me. I feel I am closer to the
subject matter when working from life, but interest in photography leads me often
to work from pictures I have taken. I find delight in the observation of my
surroundings and am always striving to deliver my interpretation of seemingly
commonplace moments through the medium of color and light.
I live in Rome, Italy
with my husband and two daughters.
