Hi everyone! My name is Allison Malafronte, and I am the senior editor of
American Artist, Drawing, Workshop, and Watercolor
magazines. I am also your Plein Air point person on the site, as I
write a weekly blog on the art of outdoor landscape painting. I have
been at the magazine for six years, having come over from two years at
Ogilvy & Mather ad agency. Prior to that I was an
English/Professional Writing major (and advertising minor) at college,
and almost majored in art history. I have been studying art history and
drawing since I was small, but I never painted until coming to this
magazine and being sent on a workshop. Once I held a brush and smelled
the paint, I was a goner. I wouldn’t call myself a painter just yet,
but I am an artist at heart and am very passionate about learning and
honing the craft.
I have an ardent interest in all the arts and enjoy studying classic
literature, music, art, architecture, sculpture, and dance. I love the
great outdoors and traveling and am never happier than when near the
ocean or in the mountains. Plein air painting is a particular penchant
of mine, because there is something so powerful to me about taking in
and interpreting the beauty of creation in your own personal way. I
enjoy all outdoor activity, and I have a particular love for and appreciation of the
Golden State of California, with its great natural beauty and rich
artistic history.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, and thanks for being a part of the online
American Artist family!
