winter waters – encaustic painting

"winter waters", measures approx 6"square.

This is an Original painting done entirely in encaustics on a wood panel, it has been mounted on top of a wood cradle. It can be hung on the wall, or easily balanced on a mantle or shelf.

Encaustic painting is a very old technique that involves color pigments melted into bees wax and resin. These "paints" are then applied in a molten state, and must be heated in order to manipulate. There are many layers. It is great fun! The finished painting will have rich texture and depth. Once complete, it is a durable surface. Just avoid placing it anywhere that is hotter than 165 degrees (good rule of thumb for anything, really 🙂

About Kari Westphal

I believe that art brings balance and harmony to our lives, much in the same way that a walk in the woods or a stroll on the beach might. It is the creation process that brings me joy.  I have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. My work is inspired by a desire to explore the things that give me peace. And thereby, share that peace. My goal is to create objects that are enjoyable to look at, and peaceful when understood.
