Civita Castellana in one of the major locations on the Grand Tour, and was painted by Corot, Turner, Bertin, Ingres, and many others. (Civita is pronounced Chee-vee-tah).
This fast (for me) oil sketch shows the back of the Duomo (cathedral) in the unique vespertine light of Italy. I particularly enjoyed using Vasari's beautiful handmade oil colours, and their Capucine Red Light and Scarlet Sienna were just right for the warm stone of this region of Italy.
