This is the first painting in a new series I am currently working on entitled Liquid Color. In this series I have decided to forego detail and sharp lines keeping the fish almost abstract or dreamy in appearance and concentrating more in large open color masses. I have purposely left out the surface reflections to simplify these paintings as much as possible and also to focus more on the emotional response I feel when I see a vibrant beautiful flash from a fish just under the surface.
Having spent thousands of hours gazing into streams, rivers and oceans I can honestly say it is something I never grow tired of. It has always fascinated me how water bends shapes of fish, blurring details and causing their colors to vibrate momentarily before disappearing into the depths with serpentine fluidity and lightning speed.
