My favorite model is my grand daughter Tiffanie. She loves to draw, especially in sand and I love the shadows cast upon the sand. I've painted her drawing in the sand at Santa Monica beach and more recently at White Sands National Monument in Southern New Mexico. She's almost 12 in this recent watercolor. I tried to capture the intensity of the mid afternoon sun hitting her and the white sand she is disturbing. By chance she wore the hot pink top – but then Tiffanie is a fashion diva. This watercolor was done on 140 lb soaked Arches rough (stretched around gator board). Matted and framed the painting will fit a 28 x 22 inch frame. Some of the texture in the lower part of the composition was created using acrylic molding paste applied with a pallet knife.
