This colorful John Wayne portrait was completed with oil based ballpoint pen inks. I’m a colorist that likes to use my “artistic license” when doing peoples portrait. Working from a photograph is boring enough therefore jazzing them up with dazzling colors helps uplifting my day. Ballpoint pens years ago came with black inks. So every time a new color came out it got placed in another one of my thousands of drawings.
I think pretty as a picture works great when fixing up an artwork. Besides that, it’s rather difficult to produce flesh tones without brown, gold, yellow or silver. Despite that how do you like the likeness, details or crosshatching? Remember, dark darks, bright colors and sharp contrast always help a picture standout.
