2009, 20" X 30 ", Soft Pastel on Prepared Illustration Board
Another painting made from a photograph that was taken while in Nice, France. From the position of the viewer, the curb creates a nearly vertical line that segments the composition. I enjoyed the challenge of keeping this composition flowing even though it was clearly divided by that line. The reflections in the various other vehicle's windows and on the "duck" itself are really where I devoted most of my concentration. Interestingly enough, I found another car that was the same make and nearly the same year as this vehicle. I photographed it and I intend to create another piece of art from that photo. This painting is titled "The Duck" because my wife told me while she lived in Germany as a child, that is what she called these cars.
