Cypher; a person or thing of no importance, a nonentity…………just another body in the crowd of many bodies.
While gathering the objects for this still life painting, I walked passed my gallery of dolls and paused. I have produced so many dolls over the past 35 years that it's difficult to look at any one doll as "special", they are all equal to me. So I decided to choose one small doll and include her in my painting as the object that doesn't belong. An amazing thing happened; my still life came alive. No matter how beautiful the other objects are, you are drawn back to her eyes again and again as if they demand your attention. From being an absolute cypher in a sea of other dolls, she has now become the most important object in a collection where she doesn't belong.
