Don Rankin

About Don Rankin

Don is a professional watercolor artist whose work is featured in many private and corporate collections.  His work has appeared in many publications, periodicals and newspapers and has been featured on the Watercolor page of American Artist, Northlight magazine and Watercolor '89.  Don is the author of several books on watercolor painting techniques; "Mastering Glazing Techniques in Watercolor" Watson-Guptill Publications, "Painting from Sketches, Photographs and the Imagination", and " Fifty most often asked questions about the Watercolor Glazing Technique". Some of his books have been translated into other languages.  His work can also be found in Marian Appelof's book entitled "Everything you ever wanted to know about watercolor" and in Elizabeth Leonard's book,"Painting the Landscape."  Due to popular demand Don is currently working on an updated version of Mastering Glazing Techniques as well as a new DVD series. He is Charter member/Life member Southern Watercolor Society; Patron, Portrait Society of America;  Don has an earned Ph.D. in visual communication and is a full time Assistant Professor of Art, in the School of the Arts  Samford University. For several years he has been focusing on painting many of his Shawnee relatives in regalia.
