Tea by the Sea

From the perspective of a painter, still life work such as Tea by the Sea (original oil on canvas, 16 x 20) is a relaxing challenge, which is on oxymoron, I know.

Unlike a live model, items in a still life do not move, blink, or give tired, gentle sighs,, Providing that the cat doesn't get into the studio, the items stay where they belong. the challenge arises from the concordant array of textural diversity: reflections off of and through clear glass, light and shadow within textiles, the hard feel of ceramic wended with the soft outlines of its floral coating.

Tea by the Sea is a marriage of some of my favorite things: the coast and tea, and all the sense of companionship, joy, freedom, and contentment that those two things bring.

Tea by the Sea is available as an original oil painting through The Lawrence Gallery, and a limited edition print of varying sizes and prices, and a note card at Steve Henderson Fine Art.
