Sundown at Hillview 9 x 11 pastel

This is a bull elk in NW, Iowa.  Once a dominate feature to the Great Plains as observed by Lewis and Clark.  Here the bull faces the last moments of the day at sunset.  This is based on sketches and photographs I took of him late this summer, early fall.  The background is based on a river where I had found elk bones two summers ago.
