I began a small practice painting on a canvas board using my new water soluble oils, and this is one afternoon's progress. I will be the first to admit I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING! I am so accustomed to using watercolor and gouache, so this was VERY awkward, but after several hours of PANIC things are beginning to feel a little better, like I'm sort of getting the hang of it. I don't know if I have the right size and type of brushes, so it feels like I'm using the floor broom to paint, but I do like that it's forcing me to paint much more loosely and not to worry about fussy details right now. Mostly I'm just trying to get used to the feel of the paint and the brushes, and working from a different perspective. Any advice or critique is very welcome! These are supposed to be Chinese lanterns and tinsel against a partial landscape of pinon pines.
