About Russell Vanecek

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri.  I have a B.F.A. and an M.F.A. in Fine Arts major Painting and Drawing.  After high school I went to the local Community College system for 3 semesters and then transferred to Webster University in St. Louis to finish my BFA.  I took a year off from school and spent time in France.

I returned and enrolled in graduate school at The Pennslyvania State University on a teaching fellowship.  I taught drawing and managed the University Gallery as exhibits coordinator.  I earned an MFA in Painting. I moved back to Missouri to take a job as a Gallery Director for new local Gallery.  After 2 years I decided I wanted to return to teaching.  I joined the Artist-In-School Residency Program sponsored by the Missouri Arts Council.  I was a visiting Artist in schools around Missouri for 3 years.  While a visiting artist I enrolled in a teacher certification program to obtain a teaching certificate for grades K-12.  I taught Art in elementary schools and high schools for 27 years and now retired.
