About Ryan Mellody

Ryan Mellody was born in Buffalo, New York in 1982, where his passion for drawing and art was apparent at a young age. Although art classes and plenty of drawing revealed his desire for creating art, it wasn’t until his pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in fine art that his yearning for contemporary representational painting was born.

An irrepressible desire to study the past and present masters—John Singer Sargent, Joaquín Sorolla, Anders Zorn, Richard Schmid, and Jeremy Lipking—has guided Ryan to focus on accurate drawing and color. This desire coupled with the exceptional training he received has catapulted his technique well beyond his years.

When talking about his style and subject matter, Ryan “looks for the beauty in the every day adventures of life, whether it’s a stormy sky or the character and emotion of a figure, there is so much beauty around us that if we can just capture a glimpse of it—with the right color, composition, and brushwork—a great piece of art will emerge.” Applying this approach, Ryan creates stunning figures, landscapes, and still lifes with a mastery that is rare in today’s dominantly modern art society.

Ryan lives with his wife and young son in Connecticut, painting in his studio and in the surrounding New England countryside.
