Oil on Canvas 20"x30"
The 11 year old girl in this painting is a singer and songwriter who has been labeled an echo terrorist for her fight to save our beautiful coastline from inevitable oil spills. She wrote a song that imagines a major oil-spill. In my support of this worthy cause, i donated this painting of Ta'Kaiya to raise funds as she travels to Rio to speak at the Earth summit.
In the Painting, I surrounded Ta'Kaiya with the beauty she's fighting to preserve. Ta'Kaiya's name translated means 'Special waters'. I painted the ocean from video footage taken in Tofino, a sacred passage of ocean in the her culture. The song 'Shallow waters' can be viewed on youtube.
