About Elaine Ascencio

I can honestly say I've been an artist all my life. I did drawing and ceramics in high school, got my BFA in 1994 from the University of California in San Diego. I am inspired by odd forms found in nature. I am especially intrigued by toxicity, symbiotic relationships, anything with tentacles or feelers, exoskeletons and invertebrates. I could look at electron microscope images for hours. Most of the time I draw with ink or pencil on paper. Sometimes I collage. I also do freehand embroidery on fabric, so some of my work is fiber art. My work most often includes images of animals (some real, some imaginary), bones, feathers, insects.
