Mucubal Tribeswoman

This is a 10" x 8" watercolor pencil painting of a Mucubal tribeswoman in Angola. She is wearing an ompota – a huge, uniquely beautiful headdress built on a wicker frame and filled with tied oxtails. In photographs, tribeswomen sometimes look as though they are seeing into some far distant place or are in a private reverie.
