monday evening – encaustic painting

This is an Original painting done entirely in encaustics on a wood panel. It does not have a wood border, the painting is a glimpse all it's own. Encaustic painting is a very old technique that involves color pigments melted into bees wax and resin. These "paints" are then applied in a molten state, and must be heated in order to manipulate. There are many layers. It is great fun! The finished painting will have rich texture and depth. The light plays off of this texture, and can make the colors appear differently from different angles. Once complete, the painting has a durable surface. Just avoid placing it anywhere that is hotter than 165 degrees (good rule of thumb for anything, really 🙂

It can be hung on the wall, or easily balanced on a mantle or shelf.

About Kari Westphal

I believe that art brings balance and harmony to our lives, much in the same way that a walk in the woods or a stroll on the beach might. It is the creation process that brings me joy.  I have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. My work is inspired by a desire to explore the things that give me peace. And thereby, share that peace. My goal is to create objects that are enjoyable to look at, and peaceful when understood.
