I promised to post the painting of Jack today but alas, I do not have it in my Ipad. It must be in my hard drive at the office, so I will post it later this week. These are the first sketches I did in charcoal on canvas to 'learn' their faces. My students are always so impatient to start painting. I tell them, "look, if it was good enough for Michaelangelo and Leonardo to do practice sketches before painting, why don't you try it?" Anyway, I kept these two sketches on the canvasses for teaching purposes. Then I worked a new canvas in paint beside each one. I don't always do that but I do so love to draw and after meeting Max and Jack, I just wanted to get started and didn't have my paint with me at home that evening.
This photo of the two sketches does show you how I composed the two paintings to be slightly looking towards each other. It also shows the differences in their personalities. Max is a happy go lucky youngster of about 3. Jack is a grumpy old man of 12 or so.
I'll tell you more when I finally post Jack's painting. It's a really lovely story.
