I took several photos of the ribbon section at the grocery store and after careful cropping found this picture subject. I thought it would be fun and challenging to paint. I began by drawing and painting the yellow ribbons throughout, then the oranges, etc. I came back with glazes to deepen shadows to indicate the twists and curls. I had to make up about a third of the background of the darker ribbons and made sure to follow the patterns that were visible in the photo. This took about a week of painting and leaving each coat to dry. It won me a signature membership in a local watercolor society and now hangs in my home. I wouldn't want to sell it!
