6X8, oil on panel
A few weeks ago, I took a trip to southeastern Arkansas in an effort to make major progress in my project to paint something from every county in the state. I spent a cold night camping at Lake Chicot State Park at the extreme southeast corner of the state and woke up before 5 am to do some plein air painting. I was set up by 6 am and racing to finish before dawn, my only company a lone owl in the woods behind me. This was my first ever plein air nocturne and I was very happy with the result and plan on doing plenty more this winter.
Some interesting facts about Lake Chicot: it is the largest oxbow lake in North America, Charles Lindbergh made his first ever night flight over Lake Chicot, and Hernando de Soto is said to be buried in the lake!
