11 x 14 oil on linen done with knife and brush. As Chapter Leader of Plein Air Painters Thousand Islands Region (PAPTIR), I recently joined a painting retreat with some of the Lower Hudson Valley Plein Air Painters (LHVPAP) and some other members of New York Plein Air Painters (NYPAP). We painted at several of the 18 sites currently identified on the Hudson River School of Artists Trail, sites made famous by their paintings. Artists familiar with the area were a great help for advice on directions, site access difficulty, and good conversation at dinner or breakfast and company while painting. Kaaterskill Falls is New York States highest Fall with the first fall 175 feet and the second 85. Niagara Falls is 190 feet but has all the drama because of the water flow. The falls are a 1/2 mile hike up a stone trail, fallen trees, and erosion exposed tree roots, and with quite an elevation climb. I had reduced my art bag to the minimum required to oil paint (except for two beers).
