Hms Gannet

Watercolour of Hms Gannet 24in x 16in.

I was really humbled to be associated with the refurbishment of this special British Gunboat. I spent many hours measuring and subsequently drawing this most interesting vessel. This is an artist impression of what the vessel looked like in its prime. This Ship is at present preserved at the Chatham Dockyards. England well worth the visit if you are in the area

About Terry Summerson

I trained as a ships draughtsman at Swan Hunter Shipbuilders where I met several very talented artists who inspired me to 'have a go' myself. My first interest was in Calligaraphy and pen and ink drawings. I was particularly interested by the Celtic designs of the Lindisfarne Gospels and the Book of Kells and by the fantasy art of Frank Frazetta and Boris Valhaho. Working in a shipyard led me to painting and drawing ships but I also liked to paint local scenes and animals. I helped to run the Shipyard artist group and organise exhibitions of our work locally. I think that my most enjoyable work is in relation to Cartoons inspired by the work of Heath Robinson. These cartoons are usually of actual ships that I have worked or of topical subjects. I have dabbled in other mediums including relief carving on slate, Scrapper board and acrylic paintings. I have spent some time in Holland and have produced quite a lot of windmill and other dutch related painting.
