About Mary Ann Pals

Mary Ann Pals is a pastel and charcoal artist living in northwest Indiana near Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes.  She has enjoyed doing artwork all her life.  In recent years, she has studied under Larry Blovits, Alan Flattmann, Sally Strand, Ron Monsma, Richard McDaniel, and Leslie B. DeMille.

Pals keeps active in the art world by:  exhibiting her work in area, national, and international competitions and sometimes winning prizes (Honorable Mention in Pastel Journal magazine's 'Pastel 100', Mar/Apr '06, and two Master Circle points from the International Association of Pastel Societies), judging area art shows, serving on the Chesterton Art Center Board of Directors, and giving art lessons.  Her work can be seen in numerous galleries and exhibitions (see her website).  She is a member of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, Northern Indiana Pastel Society, and Pastel Society of America.

Mary Ann has a passion for art, but she also enjoys traveling.  She has visited most of the United States.  Back in her studio, she tries to capture the mood or special feeling she had at a particular place.  "My artwork is an extension of my travels," she explains.
