Ottawa is one of my favorite cities ti visit, especially for the Arts, performing and visual. The Byward market area has many fine outdoor eating places in the Byward Market area as well as a farmers market and other outdoor tent vendors. It is a short walk from the National Gallery of Art so i always end up here after a museum visit. The process for this painting was a very tight pencil drawing followed by an equally tedious inking of the drawing and then painting with watercolor, gouache, and some tinted acrylic gesso for the sky. I had to break of the intensity by working on other projects in the studio and spreading the effort over many weeks. About two hours a day was all I could work on it without getting careless. Also, I had to refer to multiple photos to piece together the scene as I did not have a single photo taken in anticipation of doing the painting.Ottawa is less than a two hour drive from my home on Wellesley Island NY. It is rich in history, culture, art, and architecture. One of my favorite places to vist as the national Galley and National Arts center are big attractions for me. The drawing was constructed from multiple photos, utilizing some of the drafting skills from an early career. If I had any inkling I would make a drawing of the scene as is I would have used a tripod and a panoramic photo as an assist.
