About Jude Harzer

I am a fine artist. My preferred medium is oil paint and my preferred subject matter is the human form. I am a mother and an art educator as well. I am inspired by my own children and by my students. Most of my work reveals my passion for portraiture and my interest in symbolism. I intentionally pair figures with seemingly unrelated objects to elicit interest and a response from the viewer. My personal experiences as a disadvantaged and abused child, are masked within these painted narratives. My work, however, is positive in nature and is aimed toward elevating the human spirit and celebrating the beauty of the world around us.

I have a fascination with texture and pattern. I appreciate both the tactile and visual qualities of paint and have recently begun to integrate other materials such as metal, wood, paper and fabric into my art to achieve a more textured and interesting surface quality. I work on canvas, paper and recycled wood and doors. In the summer of 2009, I had the opportunity to further explore my interest in merging my paintings with found objects and recycled materials at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. I was a fellowship recipient and an artist in residence. I have spent the last year actively exhibiting throughout New Jersey and in NYC.

Most of my commission work is of specialized and unique children's portraiture.I need and love to paint. It is my passion! But my secret is.... I abandoned my painting for nearly 20 years and only resumed painting just 3 years ago. I never completely abandoned my dream however of being the artist that I was meant to be. I have learned that doing what I love most, has helped make sense of my world .I am painting for my life. Join me as I chase my dream!
