Title: "Adam's Apple"
Description: I have a long-term relationship/obsession with story-telling, and I enjoy symbolism and it's use in differing narratives. The apple is an important component to the majority of my works, primarily as I was first introduced to it in the tale of, "Snow White". I embraced the idea of a completely good human being, however, it is only as you mature, you realise that no such thing exists, and in fact, we can all identify with both Snow White, and the Evil Queen. Good and evil is something I struggle with daily, and I use art (specifically painting, although not always) to confront my relationship with humanity (including my own.) My painting, "Adam's Apple" however, explores the theme of the apple in a different story, but not necessarily a different context. The biblical tale of 'Adam and Eve' has always provoked my interest. I like the idea that the apple stands for temptation, and also depending on your beliefs, knowledge. I emphasize this idea with the introduction of 'modern-day knowledge' – the kindle.
I graduated from art school in 2011, and the thing I miss most about the experience, is the critiques. I loved that people could both like and dislike one work of art. I enjoy reading how other people view my work, and I believe any reponse – positive or negative – is important.
