Wonderful!

Beautiful! I like how much is left unsaid - leaves alot to the imagination.

Suellen, this is a beautiful example of monochromatic. I love the energy in this.

Marvelous...  The edge work of the light/half tone/shadow areas of the face is just stunningly delicate.  Couple that with the loose energy of the hat and you've got something really special here.

Suellen, someday when  grew younger I hope I can paint portraits like this!, is beautiful. (I don`t know what Margo means by monochromatic though)

it is a beautiful analogous painting with a wonderful blend of hard exciting edges and strokes and creamy softness....and, where do you get such a great hat???

Love this portrait.  Free, fresh, full of personality. What confident brushstrokes.

Stunning.  The loosly rendered hat and background compliments the carefully painted face.  Great colors and edges too.

Oh, beautiful!! I just love the hat - it is a perfect foil for the skin... super, super.

Really beautiful work! Love the violets and the soft edges.

Thank you everyone for the kind words! You are very encouraging!

Cholzschuh, this was painted from a model that Susan Lyon lined up for a group of us to paint from life, so I assume the hat was from Sue's costume collection. Susan and her husband Scott Burdick maintain a studio in Winston Salem and periodically invite a group of us to paint from models with them. It is an inspiration to paint along side such a talented and accomplished group of artists!

I am assuming that this was done alla prima....how long did the model pose for..you have gotten a very finished look to the body parts.  It is a wonderful portrait.

From A to Z......just a fantastic work!!! Tech. Feeling.....colors.....simply great!

Thank you MPO and Cholzschuh!

Cholzschuh, this was a 3 hour pose. The model actually posed for us for two 3 hour sessions over two days, but I started a new painting (this one) from the second sitting because I wasn't happy with my painting from the first day. I worked several more hours in my studio on it as well.

Beautiful painting, I love the brush stokes, very painterly. as your lead in to the center of attention, the nicely rendered face. Great job.
