I recently received a commission to paint three paintings from photos the client's husband took in Alaska.  She requested that I try to stay true to photos.  Excited about the work and the photos are fairly good.  Each painting will be in acrylic and 16 x 20. Suggestions are welcome

Sharon - This looks beautiful, and from what I surmise, accurate to the subjectmatter. There is nothing wrong with what you have done here.  If I were doing it, I might be a little looser and amorphus with the scrub, perhaps pulling some of the pasture grasses up around it a bit. I'm very interested to see the set. Good Painting!

The foreground is well done. Nice job.

Great job.  Depth of painting looks good.  Foregroung could use more cover, but if that is what the original shows, and the client wants painting to be close to photo, then you have to do what they want.  It is good to be able to have artist liberty.  Post more of those you do.  I may try to do one of this particular painting, as my wife loves the mountain paintings.

Sharon, very nice. The only suggestion that I would have is that you might want the sky to be a slightly lighter value of the blue or make the clouds a little less blue. The water and sky seem very close in tone and value. You also might want to add a little more atmospheric perspective to the mountains in the back.

Thanks Skylar, I wish I could post the photo but I'm not the photographer.  When I suggested a few changes, the client said she didn't want many changes. In the second painting, I did convince her to take water and ice from one photo and combine with a different view of the same mountain range in another photo.  Since I pushed for some artistic license in one, I tried to paint this one close to the original photo.   I found the scrub very challenging.

Hi dirtdigger, I'm glad you like my painting, actually the foreground was more bare and rocky.  Maybe I'll add a few rocks.

Thanks Gene for your comment.

Margo, I'll consider your suggestions. My photo of the painting may be more intense than the actual painting.  The original photo does show more atmosphere but almost the the point of total loss of color. I'll try toning down the sky. Thanks so much for your comments

Very well done Sharon.  You get an applause from me.!  One question though, if the water is still, then would there be some reflections.  If the photo did not have them, then I guess you better not put any in.

Well done Sharon.  I remember scenes like this one from Anchorage to Homer.  Excellent job.

Thanks, Jan, the water in some of the photos was frozen so that may be the reason for a lack of usual reflections in the photo.  This is one of the problems with not seeing the actual scene.

Thanks, Dale, I dd follow Margo's suggestion and toned down the sky some.  The blue of the lake is brighter in this post than the actual painting.  Always appreciate your comments.

Artistintraining, your critique coming from someone who has seen the area is very encouraging, thanks
