This is a painting I did a couple of years ago.  After spending time reading comments on paintings in gallery, I have learned so much already and see objects in this painting that I should have omitted because they don't add to painting or composition.

Hi Sharon,  Happy New Year!  I like the concept of your composition.  Someone, I know will comment on the line in the foreground, but my biggest concern is the color if the raw, pink, purple under the boat.  I think it is a little too strong.  I love the way you varied the colors in the sail lines.

You are so right, the colors are too strong.  I liked the color so I got carried away. I find the colors distracting now. Thanks so much for your comments, I admire your work.

Sharon, and I yours, It is so much easier to see issues in other people's work, and not your own.  My teacher always told me, "don't fall in love with one part of your painting, you may have to get rid or it>"   Where is Tilghman Island?  sounds familiar.

Maryland, Chesapeake Bay, we vacationed there with relatives, beautiful area!

Glazes. I would glaze, glaze, glaze. That's how I paint. Those bright colors are controlable!

Yes, I thought I recognized the name.  My brother took me there for a Sunday afternoon.  We rented a boat and went for a ride.  It was lovely.

I know virtually nothing about watercolor paint.I won't comment about the color notes either, however, this is almost a very nice piece.

It is the composition that needs work. As Sharon has mentioned, there are some confusing elements.Sharon, where is the focal point ?The question is 'what can I eliminate to make this painting stronger?'

I believe I intended the sail draped to be the focal point. When I painted this, I felt that I had overworked the sail.  But also I didn't remove some of the tie off lines or the post in front. Another thing that bothered me was the conflict between mast and distant shore with boats. Too much in one area.  Now that I think about it I don't like this painting!  I think I will try it again.
