I find the light in New York very interesting. All of the grays in this painting were mixed from primary colors. My entire palette consists of only nine colors. Two yellows, two reds, three blues, Raw Sienna and Burnt Sienna. Only a few are used in any given piece.

I love this painting, I grew up in Chicago and it brings back memories of guys singing harmonies under the street lights. You have captured the ambiance of a time long gone. Thanks for the memories

Pam,

Thanks for much for your comment. I grew up in the South Bronx and I am certain that much of my inspiration to paint urban scenes stems from that experience. Some people have said that my street scenes display a serenity not normally associated with the hustle and bustle of daily life in New York. When I was growing up in the Bronx, it was for the most part not the safest environment and it could at times have seemed chaotic but for whatever reason, the thing I remember most was the beauty of the light that cast itself upon my surroundings and that is what I try to bring to my work.
