This scene is directly in front of The Metropolitan Museum of Art on 5th Avenue in NYC (out of sight to the right). I caught this scene just as the traffic light had changed. Always ready with my camera, I was able get this shot as the traffic began to move. My intention was to capture the glistening street of a cold winter day in New York and to give the viewer a sense of movement of the bus pulling away from its stop. The yellow-orange taxi cabs and the gray violet buildings makes for an interesting compilmentary color scheme. The steam in the distance adds to the depth, dimension and atmosphere of the painting.

Thomas this is just gorgeous.  As a landscape painter, I just marvel at how a cityscape can rival the beauty of the land!  The composition is so interesting and balanced, gorgeous use of color and atmosphere........i just love it!

Raleigh,

Thanks so much. From what I can recall, I beleive this painting took about 120 hours to complete.

Wow

Love the yellow and reflection of the cab in the foreground, love the steam

I especially like the perspective - the Cab in the foreground lines up with the middle of the page (not normally a good thing in a straight ahead painting) but the street goes off to the right, so the placement of the cab is actually intriguing

Cathy,

Thanks for the comment. You know I captured this scene from my car. The light had just changed, traffic began to move and with my camera handy on the passenger seat, I took the shot. Much of the work I do happens that way. Something will appear before my eyes in an instant and I try to capture that in the final piece.

Very nice!

I think you effectively succeeded in capturing that cold winter day in the city. As Catherine mentioned, it's a daring composition that really works.

Well done.
