We are the Dreamer of Dreams, 36 x 36, oil on canvas

I created this painting in 1999. It appeared in South West Art magazine that same year. I still get phone calls about it. I wish all my paintings were this popular.

What do you think makes me stand out from my other work? I have no idea. What do you think?

K, I think that there is just a really strong design in this piece. The dark hair, tips of the feathers and blanket create such an interesting and large abstract shape. That mass is comforting to the eye. The rendering is as exquisite as all your paintings are. Also, his gaze is quite striking and memorable. Very beautiful painting.

I like all of the work you have posted, but this one is particularly striking!  His gaze is very intense and the lines of the blanket and the eagle feathers direct the eye to that very dramatic face.  I also find the strong geometry to be very appealing.  The limited palette really works, particularly in contrast to the blacks in the hair and blanket.  Great piece!

Perhaps its the subject? Many people like this sort of thing the face of the native american showing quite an intense expression that isnt easy to forget and its also very nicely composed. I have to say though that all of your work is of  high quality.

Thanks.

Marie:Abstract shapes. That may be abig  part of it.

Ron: Geometric shapes and the items leading to the face. I see that know.

I get so involved in painting that I don't stop and analyze the how and why. I think you are on to something

Sergio, 99% of my paintings have been the American Indian so that doesn'tmake it different than my other work. Thanks for the nice comment.

My mistake, I based that observation on the work I saw here which were only three.

What a striking painting, K. I think this stands out for the striking color combination - far more intense than your others. The blue on the face is so unusual that it is haunting.  The clear and clean colors are stunning.  I can't help staring at him!
