Found this little cottage sitting way off the road while on vacation in Sweden.
Painted with W & N Water Soluble Oil
very nyce¡
Gene, this is nice. Do you mind if I suggest that maybe the sky should show a little more contrast against the white trim on the roof?
Gene, I will agree with Margo5 on this one regarding the sky......unless of course that is ash from Iceland! (just kidding!)
I do very much like what you have done with the plants and trees in front...Nice!
wow Gene! Very nice, I love how you diffirentiate the sunlight with the colder color scheme on the Cottage, very nice work
Thanks all.
Margo/MPO, Yea I considered that but stuck with the sky as it was that day. Think your right though so I"ll dab a bit of blue/grey in there.
This is really nicely rendered, but it leads me in a direction maybe you weren't thinking of. Those plants in the bottom left and right, that are nearly schematic in their shapes and slightly threatening as they angle toward the house - they remind me of Rousseau, so that the entire piece has a faint air of a menacing fairy tale. Have you considered going in a direction of more stylization, to take advantage of this particular emotional quality in your work? I'm not suggesting you drop everything and go in one direction only, but it might be worth trying out a couple of paintings along those lines, just to see what happens...
This is really nice Gene! it feels very cozy to me.
MPO/Margo .. I looked again at the painting and it does contrast the white trim well. Guess the photo does not show that.
Daniiel .. I actually went with the flow of the plants in the photo and had not considered the menacing style you were so observent to pick up. That could be fun to pursue. Thanks
Thanks for the comment Sherry.
Very nice Gene, I like the cooler color on the upper dark part of the cottage with the sunlit tree. I also like the detail of the foliage. Your painting has a lot of atmosphere to it. I love the little pot of flowers on the steps.
You did a wonderful job here Gene! It coul be hanging in a museum wall. I just love this, congratulations!
Dania, Raul .. WOW thanks so much for the wonderful comments.
This has a lot of charm, Gene! I love the details on the structure, as well as the fern type plants in the foreground.
Thanks so much Kisu.
Gene,
You bring up a very valid point that I am sure most people who post on sites have found out......things simply don't always look the same here as they do on the original! I have posted a couple of works that I really felt good about and when I saw them on line it was like........oooooppppppsssss! They looked horrrible! In my case I'm sure a lot of it comes from my terrible photography...trying to learn how to do a better job there. I have also learned that I really need to understand when drawing from a bad photo, I will most likely get a bad drawing....for me, it took a while for it to sink in that camara distortion is real and I made some bad mistakes by not understanding that.
In short I have a lot to learn! And I am most thankful to have been exposed to several wonderful talented people like yourself and many others here that I learn from almost every day.
Keep up the good work and thanks for helping to inspire students like myself!
MPO .. Dido re cameras. I did purchase a new one a few months ago but still don't use it well. Lighting problems that I don't adjust for.
Agree this is a great site for support. You get great feedback from pro artists (unlike myself) that is so encouraging.
Thanks for your kind words.
Gene - This is most appealing - There is an almost storybook feel. (Don't take this the wrong way, but I thought this was one done by Old Paint, at first.)
Skylar .. no problem, I like his work. Thanks.
Nice work Gene! You've created all kinds of textures in this, from the from the glass in the windows to the ferns. Well done.
Gene, hope this message gets to you. Karyn is leaving tomorrow and she was so helpful to us on this site that I thought you might want to know so that you could tell her good-bye. There is a thread on the home page under "Karyn" that you might want to go to in order to thank her, or you might be able to reach her under "authors."
this home is so so lovly.
