Thanks Richard and Kells for your comments!  I worked for a while today on her eyes, nose and lips, and think I've made some improvement.  Like I said before, I'm not a portrait artist by any stretch of the imagination ;-)  but I wanted to do something nice for a friend who lost her mom last week.  Thanks for all comments - I appreicate your taking the time to give me your thoughts.

Good for you!  Much improved!  Do you ever work in pencil?  Portraits can be much more forgiving when done in pencil.

Thanks Richard!  No, I haven't tried pencil... not in a portrait sense anyway.  I suppose I should try that.  I have an artist friend that always finishes a pencil sketch before she goes on to paint a portrait... She always does a great job.  I suppose I should try that, but I guess I'm too impatient to do something twice - lol.  I wish I'd had some formal training in portrait painting... There's always next year!  ;-)  Thanks for your comment and help.  Much appreciated.
