I was driving in the Quincy area when the first snow of the seaso starting to quietly drift down. It was so beautiful. I took pictures and painted this when I got home.

WONDERFUL painting just a beautiful scene.  i love your colors and the falling snow gives this a A+.  I love the way the BG just fades off into the distance - great work.

You did a greaat job! I love it!

Rather than dab snowflakes on, I find that splattering it on with a hard bristle tooth brush works just great.  I mix up some titanium white acrylic or gouache so it is just a tad watery, put the tooth brush bristles down in the mixture, shake it off a few times and holding the tooth brush about 6-8 inches away from the surface, i run my thumb along the bristles in a backward motion, and move the brush as I go.

Try it on a test piece of paper, so you get the hang of it.

Again. great job 5 stars in my opinion!

Thanks again, and I thought about the toothbrush technique, but was too afraid to ruin what was already what I wanted. This painting is a gift for my cousin, and I didn't want to risk ruining it so close to Christmas. I do want to try that technique and will paint another snowy picture soon.  Thanks for your comments, they are very much appreciated.

Beautiful work Suzanne!  I'm also a bit timid about using the splattering technique... I've tried it (just for practice on a seperate sheet of paper with the side of a fan brush), but was so afraid I'd mess it up, and after spending so much time on something wasn't ready to take that chance!  lol  ;-)

I suppose in time I will be brave enough to try it on a real painting one of these days.  I think that your painting is beautiful just the way it is - your cousin will be so delighted to have this for a gift!  I would be!  Merry Christmas and happy painting!  :)
