This is a portrait of a friend of mine. I wanted to portray him in a life-changing contemplative mood. Hope I succeeded. Most of this drawing was done using a mechanical pencil. I used a small amount of charcoal as an undercoat for darker areas.
WOW, Jim, this is fantastic! You caught the contemplative mood very well. The contrasts jump off the page. Can't wait to see more of your work. Also, the drawing you did of your friend who died is beautiful. I know her husband appreciated the drawing.
Thanks Sharon. This one is one of my favorites. Just finished it in October. Don't know why this one turned out so different from my other works but am grateful it did. Now if I can talk Stan into buying it! I drew it because I simply liked the picture I took of him. It was in a much lighter atmosphere than what I drew. Jim
Jjkky01, this is amazing. Terrific range of values and gradation.
Thanks Margo! - Jim
Terrific!
Thanks Nat! Greatly appreciated! Jim
Stunning work! What size and type of paper did you use?
Of course, if I scrolled up a little bit before I hit "Add", I would have answered my own question :-)
LOL! Thanks Kevin! I'm not much at painting but sure enjoy pencil and paper. No mess and can be done just about anywhere. Jim
Excellent work Jim. Outstanding tonality and delicate handling of the paper surface. Well done!
Thanks DMAC! I use to paint a lot in acrylics but after the kids were born I gave up painting. Hell, I gave up drawing and painting completely until about 4 years ago after my divorce. Now I have all the time in the world to work on drawing when not writing .Net code at work. Thanks again! Jim
Nice drawing!
Outstanding!
Thanks Jon and dnns_mchl! Greatly appreciated! Cheers! Jim
Amazing. When I first saw this, I thought it was a photograph.
Thanks lpiper! Quite a compliment! BTW, loked at your landscape paintings and loved 'em.
can't improve on whats been said. Very nice.
Very kind words, Gene. Thanks! I, like you, do not sell my work but give it to those that like it, family and friends. With the economy the way it is, that may change. Thanks again. Jim
